Rohema Rakatak Brown – Clapper Instrument with a Very Dark Sound

One clear beat with every movement and the darkest sound in the series: the Rohema Rakatak Brown combines a simple, maraca-like playing motion with a distinctive method of sound production. Moving the instrument back and forth creates a precise clattering tone that makes it easy to play rhythms and accent individual beats.

Unlike a traditional shaker, the Rakatak does not contain a loose filling. Instead, a movable striker runs through its hollow, open-ended resonating body. As the instrument is played, the striker hits both sides of the body, producing one individual sound with every movement. This allows rhythmic sequences to be shaped deliberately and musical accompaniments to be explored through play.

The Rakatak is made from beechwood sourced from local forests and finished with wax. The balls of the striker are lacquered brown with a saliva- and sweat-resistant finish. The brown version produces a very dark sound and represents the lowest-pitched variant in the Rohema Rakatak series.
