Rohema Rakatak Yellow – Clapper Instrument with a Very Bright Sound

Clattering instead of shaking: the Rohema Rakatak Yellow is moved back and forth much like a maraca, but produces its sound in a completely different way. Instead of a loose filling, the instrument features a hollow, open-ended resonating body with a striker running through it. With every movement, the striker hits the sides of the body to create its characteristic, very bright clattering sound.

The sound is reminiscent of galloping horses or the rattle of a rattlesnake. As each movement produces one clearly defined sound, rhythms can be played precisely and individual beats can be deliberately accented. This makes the Rakatak an interesting alternative to traditional rattles and shakers.

The Rakatak is made from locally sourced beechwood and finished with wax. The balls on the striker are lacquered yellow with a saliva- and sweat-resistant finish. The yellow model produces the brightest sound in the Rohema Rakatak series.
