Description
Dark in sound and precise in rhythm: the Rohema Rakatak Blue is played with a back-and-forth motion similar to a maraca, yet has a distinctive sound character of its own. Instead of a continuous shaker sound, each movement produces a clearly accented clattering tone.
The Rakatak produces its sound without any loose filling. A movable striker runs through the hollow resonating body and hits its sides as the instrument is played. A longitudinal slot in the body contributes to the development of the sound. The result is a characteristic tone that can be used precisely and controlled easily within rhythmic patterns.
The instrument is made from high-quality, locally sourced beechwood and finished with wax. The balls of the striker are lacquered blue with a saliva- and sweat-resistant finish. Within the colour-coded Rakatak series, the blue model represents a dark sound.
