Horst Wünsche Zitherbau KG

The story of Horst Wünsche Zitherbau doesn’t begin with a brand. It begins with a craft. In 1877, Oscar Robert Hammig started his own business as a zither maker. What followed was not quick success, but a path shaped over generations. His son Kurt Hammig took over the company in 1920. After the war, his son-in-law Horst Wünsche joined the workshop and became a defining figure. After earning his master craftsman certificate in 1953, he continued independently under his own name, shaping the company’s identity. This is not knowledge that was stored. It was passed on.
Recognition followed: In 1971, the title “Artist in Musical Instrument Making,” in 1980, the honorary award of musical instrument making in the GDR, and in 1982, a gold medal at the Leipzig Trade Fair. But what matters more is this: the craft remained. With Steffen Meinel and later his brother Frank, the knowledge moved into the next generation. Both completed formal training, earned master titles and academic degrees – and today run the company together as equal partners. What they build are not nostalgic objects. They are instruments meant to be played today.
